Travel Etiquette in Belize

Traveling in Belize can be enjoyable and adventurous by following a few travel etiquettes. The citizens of Belize are extremely generous and gracious. You too, must appear equally generous and amiable to them. So it is always a major travel etiquette in Belize to greet a Belizean with a "Good morning" or "Good evening" before inquiring for anything like directions, a table in the restaurant or entering a shop. This greeting will add warmth to your welcome. Taking photos inside the church is prohibited. Take photos of the native people only after receiving their permission. Direct approach from your side may possibly make them feel suspicious or nervous. It is a traditional practice to present them with a small amount of money.

Another significant travel etiquette in Belize that the travelers who are gay must follow is that they are suggested to be very careful while traveling in Belize. In Belize homosexuality is extralegal. The indigenes have been imprisoned for the act of homosexuality. The travel etiquette in Belize of carrying waste materials along with you or not throwing cigarette butts any where is strictly followed. The violation of any of these acts may cause disturbance in the ecological balance of Belize.
Cigarette butts may cause fire and are subject to slow biodegradation.

Under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1982, taking away of wildlife stuff from the national assets and shells or corals from the famous Belize is a poor travel etiquette in Belize.

Another travel etiquette in Belize which you must follow, is to drink filtered or sealed water. Stream water and ice cubes are unhygienic as they may contain unhealthy elements. Avoid eating unfamiliar foods which may be in danger of extinction.
