Images of Belize Reef

The Belize Reef is the largest and most famous reef in the western half of the world. It stretches for about 260 km from the northern tip of the country to Sapodilla Cayes in the south. The images of the Belize Reef reveal that this reef has got the biggest ecosystem on Earth. These images also reveal the existence of submerged volcanoes called atolls in Belize, which are really a bizarre sight.

The images of Belize Reef reveal the existence of about a large diversity of marine species in the Belize Reef. Among them, there are 300 fish species and 65 coral species. Various images of Belize Reef show a diverse range of fishes, crustaceans, echinoderms, mollusces and corals. There are images showing the presence of algae also. A large number of the fish species occur mainly on the reefs.
The reef images display the big sharks as well as the small gobies. Most of the tiny invertebrates are yet not seen by any snorkeller or diver. Images of new fish species and other invertebrates are being captured every now and then. A completely different "hotspot" of newly discovered biodiversity on the Belize Reef is the subject of various images of stunningly beautiful and richly colored strange varieties of corals, sponges and other types of species. Images reveal the presence of seaquirts in one of the lagoons.

The images of Belize Reef also display the presence of various turtles, like the Hawksbill Turtle in the reef. The image of the famous Blue Hole is also displayed among the images of the Belize Reef. Images of Belize Reef also prove the merged existence of lagoons, coastal wetlands and mangrove covered coastal area and cayes shielding the ecosystem of this reef.
