Currency Exchange Rates in Belize
The unit of money in Belize is Belize Dollar (BZD). One Belize Dollar is split into 100 cents. Belize Dollar is standardized against the US Dollar as BZ$ 2 = US $

2. The coins have denominations of BZ$ 1 and 100, 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 cents.
It is not necessary for the visitors to exchange Belize Dollars for US Dollars. The major hotels, resorts, restaurants and tour organizers accept US money and travelers' cheques in Belize. They also accept credit cards. The major banks in Belmopan and Belize City offer cash against American Express, MasterCard and Visa. Usually the ATMs in Belize do not accept foreign cards.


Always check with the debit or credit card agency for the details of their available services and the currency exchange rates in Belize. Most of the organizations include 5% service tax to the bill on using the credit cards.
The exchange of local currency is restricted up to BZ$ 100. The citizens of Belize can take with them the equivalent amount of BZ$ 400 outside the country and the same amount can be brought in Belize by the foreign visitors.
