Transport Facilities in Pisa

The city of Pisa is well connected to Italy by means of different modes of transportation such as car, train, and plane. By car, one can take the A12 Genova-Pisa highway to arrive. For those tourists who are coming from Rome, they can take the A12 Roma-Civitavecchia highway and the E80 expressway. If a tourist is coming from Florence, then he/she can take the A11 Firenze-Mare highway or the Firenze-Pisa-Livorno expressway. Pisa is well connected to Florence with a very frequent train service linking the two cities of Pisa and Florence in about an hour.


The city of Pisa is also on the Rome-Genoa line with frequent trains plying in both the directions. The station is situated in the immediate proximity of the historic centre on the southern side of the river Arno. If a tourist wants to know about the train schedules in detail, then he/she can contact Trenitalia website or call up at their toll free number which is 89 20 21.Pisa also has a number of connecting flights running to and fro the city. Galileo Galilei International Airport is the international airport of Pisa and it is also the most important
airport in Tuscany, which connects the city of Pisa with the prime Italian and European destinations. This international airport is located at a distance of 1 kilometer from the city of Pisa and the airport is connected to the central city by means of both bus as well as train. The train which plies from the international airport and connects the airport to the city of Pisa goes directly to Pisa Central Station.

Bus line 1 passes through the main city streets and then arrives to Piazza dei Miracoli. Opposite the airport exit door is located the taxi rank. On turning right after leaving the Arrivals Terminal, one would find the "Collective taxi" service which runs from the international airport to the Pisa Central Station right up to Piazza Duomo. The maximum number of people that can be accommodated is eight with a set rate per person.
