Interesting Places Around Pisa

A travel to Pisa will make the tourists take a look at a number of interesting places in Pisa which would leave the tourists yearning for more.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa: this wonder of the world is still standing erect even after 80 years of its being established, thanks to the efforts of an English engineer. It is now opened to the tourists as well after it was closed in 1990. Shortly after the building of this Tower started, it was felt that the river soil of the Pisan Plain was collapsing under the weight of the Tower. The Tower slumped at being built three stories and in an attempt to counterbalance this slump the building continued with irregular shaped stonework. As a result, the Tower tilted in the opposite direction.

The Baptistery: This is the largest of its kind in the whole of Italy and as is the case with a number of other buildings in Italy, it was started in one way and finished in another way. The first three tiers of this structure is Romanesque while the pinnacled layer which supports the unusual dome is Gothic and was added in the 13th century. The most striking feature of the interior of this structure is its simplicity and lack of decoration. A demonstration of the remarkable acoustics is also on the list for the tourists.
Piazza dei Cavallieri: At one point of time, this square was referred to as the "civic centre" of medieval Pisa and may have been the site of the Roman forum before that. With its archaic clock and archway, the intricately decorated Palazzo dei Cavallieri (which is now a school) is alongside the Palazzo. Vasari designed the church of Santo Stefano.

Campo dei Miracoli: Home to the Leaning Tower, the Cathedral and the Baptistery is "the field of miracles". The square was the site of pre-Roman settlements. Several museums can also be found here along with the Camposanto which is "the most beautiful cemetery in the world".

Chiesa della Spina: This church, located on the south bank of the river Arno, is Pisa's finest demonstration of Gothic fancy. The exterior of this church is worth watching.
