| While taking a trip down to China, it is important for the tourists to be acquainted with the travel etiquette that one needs to follow during his/her stay in China. The Chinese in general, are quite formal, abiding by certain courtesies which are typical to the Chinese culture. According to the Western norms, the Chinese people sometimes seem to be impolite in public places. Mianzi: This is commonly defined as status or self -respect in Chinese. A traveler should be very careful so that he/she never insults, yells at a Chinese or try to prove a Chinese wrong or to shout at him/her in a public place. Any sort of a criticism should be delivered tactfully and privately to a Chinese.
Guanxi: By this is implied the relationship between people. Sharing a healthy and good relationship between people is very important for the Chinese people.

They regard good relation between individuals as a symbol of personal capability and influence.
Keqi: This term represents politeness, modesty, humbleness, well mannered, and considerate. The Chinese prefer a roundabout way of expressing themselves rather than voicing out their opinion directly. It is advisable to be a bit cautious while one is discussing political matters in public in China being a tourist. The Chinese rarely greet people with a handshake. It is preferable not to behave in a too carefree manner in a public place in China. If you push yourself to the forefront without any reason then there is a very strong possibility that you will be treated as an unwelcome guest.
As the popular saying goes, be like a Roman when you are in Rome, likewise, it is advisable to keep in mind the customs, traditions of the Chinese people so that as a tourist you are not seemingly visible as a misfit and you are well accustomed to the travel etiquette that needs to be followed while you are on a visit to China.
