Images of Hagia Sophia

The images of Hagia Sophia or Aya Sophya, come to our mind, at the very mention of the city of Istanbul. Aya Sophya is one of the most popular buildings of the world. Hagia Sophia is the Church of Holy Wisdom. Earlier it was a Christian Church and then an Eastern Orthodox Church. The Turks converted it into a mosque in 1453, building four minarets at the four corners, and in 1935 this was further made into a museum. The images of Hagia Sophia reveal it as one the most amazing historical creations of man. It experienced one of the greatest tragedies as the Ottomans invaded it during the fall of Constantinople. This building was constructed in 537 on the remains of the two churches by Justinian the Great.

The images of Hagia Sophia show the remnants of the former churches right at the entrance of the building at he eastern side. While gradually moving from the outer into the inner vestibule, you will be able to see the beautiful mosaics, most of which were destroyed or plastered as a result of the Islamic ban on representational descriptions. Various images of Hagia Sophia reveal the spectacular beauty of the superbly colored mosaics in different geometric shapes. Next is the Imperial Gandt. Images also express the magnificence of the dome, with its size and height.
The height and breadth of the dome are 56 m and 31 m respectively. The mesmerizing beauty of the mosaics and calligraphic discs are shown on the numerous images of Hagia Sophia. Pictures of various Christian iconographic mosaics, dating back to the ninth and tenth centuries, present on the first floor in the Empress Zoë Gallery, are really stunning.

Pictures of Hagia Sophia also reveal the paintings of Justinian I and Constantine I. Some of the images of the mosaics display the paintings of Christ Pantocrator, Saint John Chrysostom and Virgin Mary with child Christ along with the paintings of Emperor Johannes Komnenos II and Empress Irene on her two sides on the mosaics. Most of the Hagia Sophia pictures show the different portions of this historical architectural marvel; its marble floors, Apse, Islamic mihrab, a building layout and the fountain made in 1740 for ritual washing.
