Transport Facilities in London

For the tourists to move around freely in and around London there are a number of options available for the tourists in terms of transport and communication. For the past couple of days London has been working hard on developing a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) all across London. A Low Emission Zone aims at improving the air quality of London by encouraging the operators of large vehicles that run on diesel to clean up their fleets. The 2nd of February 2007 saw the end of a public consultation on the detailed proposals for a London Low Emission Zone (LEZ).

A review has been conducted in order to assess the possible impact of the Government's 2006 Energy Review on the transportation of nuclear fuel that has been spent along with the other radio active materials that are carried around and through London. The Government of London has worked effectively towards providing certain facilities in terms of transportation to the people of London.
All the people of London who are under the age of 18 and are enrolled in a full time educational course are entitled to free bus and tram travel all across London since the 1st of September 2006. Those who are 16 to 17 years of age and work or stay outside London can apply for half-fare concessions on a number of bus and tram fares. This considerable reduction in the bus and tram fares is supposed to help a number of families in London by improving access to education, sport and leisure.

In order to continue London's move away from car journeys these reduced fares have been designed to encourage the youngsters of London to stay away from traveling by cars. This should also help in reducing congestion in and around London. Either a 16/17 or a 14/15 Oyster photo card is required for youngsters in order to be eligible for free bus and tram travel. For those people who have serious difficulties in mobility and thus availing the transport facilities of London, there is the taxi card scheme which is a method of providing subsidized door-to-door transport.
