Taj Mahal Minaret

A minaret is the quintessence of Islamic architecture. This word is dderived from the Arabic expression 'manar' indicating 'beacon' or 'lighthouse'. This place is used by the muezzin in the mosques to utter his prayer five times a day. The Taj Mahal at Agra has four large towers or minarets The Taj Mahal's intricate and detailed symmetry is well displyed by these minarets. Height of Taj mahal minaret The four separate minarets of the Taj Mahal measure 138 feet high. Standing tall and proud they look like sentry or guards looking after the Taj mahal and its treasures. They slant to one side because as it was common with many tall structures even if it topples or falls down then it wouldn't crash on the main structure and thus the tomb would be safe from damage.
The minarets have octagonal structure at the base with cylindrical bodies. It tapers to the top and gets converted into two balconies divided into three equal parts. A final balcony is also found on the top of the tower. It is said that at one point of time these minarets were open to the public until somebody committed suicide by jumping of one of these minarets. Another specialty of these minarets on Taj is that there is an Arabic letter embossed on each of the minaret, which when read at a time mean ar-rahman or all merciful which is one of the countless names of Allah or the Almighty
Minarets of Taj Mahal The Taj has working minarets as those found on several mosques for the muezzin to recite his prayer and other uses. The same lotus motif which is found on the tomb and the decorated finials grace the top of these minarets. These minarets add a character and strength to the Taj mahal. It is one of the reasons for Tajmahal's imposing structure and grandeur
