Taj Mahal Tours

The Taj Gateway stands at a height of 30m. The Taj Mahal of Agra grows as you approach it. The Taj Mahal of Agra is visible only if you enter the Gateway. For a proper view of the tomb one has to enter the gateway. The gateway is made of massive red sandstone and is decorated with verses of the holy Koran.
Taj Mahal tour guideIn Islam, garden signifies paradise which contains four rivers. These four rivers are filled with water, milk, wine and honey. Hence the concept of char bagh style of garden layout was designed. The Taj Garden covers 300 m of the total area of 580m by 300m. Today, the garden is well maintained and the four parts of the garden are separated from the central raised pool. The water channels were stocked with colourful fish and gardens with a wide range of birds. Guest house and stables were built to accommodate the guests. The trees grown have been cypress trees which signify death and fruit trees which signify life. The Taj Garden at the Taj Mahal Agra provides a good scenic background while clicking photographs.

The actual monument of the Taj Mahal of Agra is at a height of 6.7 metres and can be approached centrally within the garden.. From the plinth one can have the best view of the garden as well as river on the back side. One can experience a mystic and divine feeling of true love at this juncture.

The four minarets, each capped by small cupola situated at the four corners of the plinth. They function as supports to the tomb and each letter on each of the minaret when put together form the word ar-rahman meaning Allah. The Taj Mahal at Agra is square in shape and beveled at corners. The main dome occupies the centre and 2 small domes at each corner. The dome resembles a dome of pearl which signifies the throne of the God in Islam. The dome contains calligraphy of the verses of Koran and inlay work is used to beautify the tomb.
Tour taj mahal and places aroundThe Mughal tradition of one private and one public tomb has been followed. The public tombs are encrusted with an octagonal screen of marble and inlaid precious stones. The tombs are in the Central Chamber whereas a crypt or maqbara below the chamber houses the private tombs.

Nurjahan built the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daula at Agra, for her father. It contained a mosaic of exquisitely colored precious stones inlaid into the white marble. It is considered to a a innovation and a noteworthy decoration of that time.

Though the Taj Mahal of Agra has lost its splendour and grandeur in terms of semi-precious stones, the carving, the calligraphy and the intricacies of the work are still marvelous. The Taj Mahal of Agra still attracts many tourists and has been voted as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
