Given below is a list of dos and don'ts that can be followed while on a trip to India in order to be acquainted with the travel etiquette that a tourist can follow while on a trip to India.
Dos:
Hotel bills to be paid by foreign nationals in foreign currency.
Money to be exchanged only through authorized banks or money changers.
Receipt to be asked against every exchange
Receipts against exchange to be kept carefully in order to facilitate re-conversion of unspent money before leaving the country
Shopping from Government Emporium is recommended
Exporting any wildlife and related products is strictly prohibited
A certificate should be taken on the legitimate purchase of an animal product
Insist on the meter of the taxis and auto rickshaws being flagged in your presence whenever applicable
Insist on seeing the latest fare chart before paying taxi or auto fare as the fares are quite flexible in nature and keeps on changing from time to time
Cover your head before entering a Sikh shrine
Concessionary tickets to be purchased in foreign exchange only
Rules related to photography at archaeological monuments should be checked with the nearest Government of India Tourist Office

Get tempted by shopping bargains on the street
Exchange money from an unauthorized money changer
Purchase travel tickets from strangers
Purchase silver articles or peacock feathers in bulk
