Interesting Places Around Bodrum

There are a number of interesting places that are worth visiting in and around Bodrum. Amongst the places that are worth visiting in this historically rich city would include:

Bodrum castle:This was built in between 1415-1437 by the knights of Rhodes in St Peter's honor. The relics of the Mausoleum, which is one of the seven wonders of ancient world, were used for the construction of this castle. There are five main towers called English Tower, French Tower, Spanish Tower, Italian Tower, and German Tower. This castle was used as a prison after 1895. There is a Gothic chapel in the courtyard wherein findings from the Bronze age, dating back 3000 to 2000 years are exhibited. There is a Turkish bath and also the Amphora Park in this castle.



Mausoleum: This is a funeral monument constructed by Artemisia after the death of her brother and husband Mausolos.It was originally 46 meters in height.

Amphi Theatre: This is situated in the hillside overlooking Bodrum. This theatre with an approximate capacity of 13,000 people was built during 330 - 30 BC during Carians' reign in Hellenistic age.

Myndos Gate: One of the two entrances of ancient Halikarnassos, this is located on the west side of Bodrum.

Ottoman Tower: This was built approximately around the year of 1794. It was built in order to protect an Ottoman naval shipyard from the hands of pirate raids. Remains of Roman bath have been found in this place while it was undergoing recent restoration.

Zeki Muren Museum: This museum used to be the last home of Turkey's deceased favourite singer once upon a time. This was a giant of the Turkish music scene and as a result, this museum is worshipped much like Elvis Presley.
