New Seven Wonders of the World

The New Open World Corporation (NOWC), a private and a non profit Swiss orgainsation tried to create an alternative to the historical list of the Seven Wonders of the World. The final list was announced on July 7, 2007 in Lisbon, Portugal. The method of choosing was through votes which were cast through the Internet or by telephone.The New Seven Wonder of the World are :
1. Chichen Itza
2. Christ Redeemer Statue
3. Machu Picchu
4. Petra City
5. Roman Colosseum
6. Taj Mahal of Agra
7. Great Pyramid of Giza.

Chichen Itza:This wonder of the world is located in the northern center Yucatán Peninsula of present day Mexico. It was built the Maya civilization. It signifies worship and knowledge.

Christ Redeemer statue: The statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is the second wonder of the world. The statue symbolizes Christanity, welcomeness and openess. The statue is located at the peak of the Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park. ,

Machu Picchu: This third wonder of the world is a pre-Columbian Inca city located at the 2,430 m on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba valley in Peru. This site is greatly revered by the locals and is referred to as the "Lost City of the Inca Empire"

Petra City: This wonder of the world lies in a basin among the mountains of eastern range of the Arabah in Jordan. It is famous for having many stone structures carved into the rock. The city built served as a fortress and was so designed to store water thus making an artificial oasis in the desert city.

Great Wall of China: This wonder is a series of stone and earthen fortications built in China throughtout the 5th century BC till the 16th century to protect China in the north. It stretches over approximately 6400 kms, signifying resistance from the foerign intrusion.

Roman Colosseum: It is an eliptical amphitheatre built by Romans, in Italy. The structure depicts the indepth knowledge of architecture and engineeing of the Romans. It could seat 50,000 spectators. Its construction was completed in 80AD under emperor Titus.

Taj Mahal of Agra : This wonder lies in India, and was built as a sign of love and remeberance of one's beloved. The purity of love is symbolised by the white marble used. It presents an intricate mix of Persian, Turkish, Indian and Islamic architecture

Great Pyramid of Giza: This wonder of the world lies in Cairo, Egypt. It was built as a tomb of Khufu, a Fourth Dynasty Egyptian Pharoah. It is the oldest and largest of the pyramids at Giza
