Situated on an island of 12 acres, the Liberty Statue was a bequest of friendship from the French people to the people of United States, representing universal democracy and freedom. The Statue being gifted on October 28th, 1886, was designated as a national tribute in 1924 and restituted for the completion of hundred years of the statue on July 4, 1986. The official centennial birthday of the Liberty Statue was on October 28, 1986. As it was a shared endeavor between France and America, the Americans consented to construct the base and French agreed to build the statue and assemble it in America.


The design of the statue was made by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and that of the pedestal was made by Richard M. Hunt. The steel internal framework of Liberty Statue was masterminded by Eiffel Gustave. It took nine long years to complete the construction of the whole statue, being completed in 1884. 350 pieces of the Statue was brought by ship in New York and was rebuilt on Bedloe Island.
