Aztec Civilization

The people belonging to the Pre-Colombian era in America, residing in the region, which covers adjacent to the Tropic of Cancer, were referred to as Aztecs. These people lived in the Valley of central Mexico during the 14th, 15th and the 16th centuries.
Aztec civilization ruled central America before the Spanish arrived, and Aztec culture believed fatalism and ceremony. Aztec civilization is a colorful civilization of Mexico. The Aztecs were Mesoamerican people who called themselves Mexicas, who lived during the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries in central Mexico. It was in the 14th century that the Aztecs first landed on the Valley of Mexico under the leadership of Tenoch. It was after the name of their leader that they named their capital city Tenochtitlan. The Aztecs had a rich cultural heritage, where education was compulsory and religion took a very special place in the lives of the people. It was under the able supervision of the "calpolli" that the education of the children below the age group of 14 and they were taught the basic tenets of the ideals of the Aztecs and an assemblage of sayings known as "huehuetiatolli".

The Aztecs were basically nature worshippers, and their pantheon of deities represented one or the other forces of nature. Agriculture was their main occupation, so they believed in order to prosper; they needed to appease their deities. The language spoken by Aztecs was Nahuati. The Aztec society was strictly hierarchical. In the highest rung in the ladder they had the people belonging to the nobility, who were also known as the "pilli".
Since the class is conferred on birth so the children of the nobility normally had the right all the benefits enjoyed by the "pillis". Next in rank were the agricultural laborers. This was probably assigned considering the importance of agriculture in the development and prosperity of Aztec civilization. Besides these, there were also a distinct class of the slaves and the merchants, who were also known as "pochteca".
The staple diet of the Aztecs was a preparation made with beans, squash and beans, which were made more wholesome and tasty with tomatoes and chillies. Acocils was another important crop harvested by the Aztecs.
